What’s in Your Package?

When your medication shipment arrives, you should find:

  • Compounded GLP-1 medication (vial or pen, depending on prescription)
  • Insulin syringes or injectable pen
  • Alcohol pads

Before You Begin

  1. Check the “Beyond Use Date (BUD).”

    • Do not use any medication past its BUD date.

  2. Verify your dosage.

    • For injection pens, follow the instructions in your prescription box.
    • For syringes, confirm dosage using the unit markings or the Health Haven Clinics mobile app.

Step-by-Step Injection Instructions

1. Wash Hands & Prepare Site

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Choose your injection site:

    • Abdomen (at least 2 inches away from the belly button)
    • Thigh (front or outer side, middle third)

  • Clean the site with an alcohol pad and allow it to dry.
  • Rotate injection sites weekly.

2. Prepare the Medication (for vials)

  • Clean the vial’s rubber top with a fresh alcohol pad.
  • Pull the syringe plunger back to draw in a small amount of air.
  • Insert the needle into the vial and push in the air.
  • Invert the vial and withdraw the prescribed dose.
  • Remove air bubbles by tapping the syringe and pushing gently until a drop appears at the needle tip.

3. Administer the Injection

  • Clean the injection site again with alcohol; let dry.
  • Pinch a small fold of skin.
  • Insert the needle at a 90-degree angle until fully in.
  • Push the plunger slowly and steadily.
  • Remove the needle and apply light pressure with a cotton ball if needed.

Injection Site Guidelines

  • Abdomen: Inject into the soft fatty tissue, avoiding scars, bruises, or the belly button area.
  • Thigh: Inject in the front or outer thigh, at least 4 inches above the knee and 4 inches below the hip. Avoid veins, scars, or bruises.
  • Rotation: Alternate between abdomen and thighs to reduce irritation.

Injection Tips

  • For prefilled pens, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions included in your prescription box.
  • Rotate sites weekly to minimize discomfort and improve absorption.

Dispose of syringes or pen needles safely in a sharps container.
