This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to safely administer your GLP-1 medication using subcutaneous injections. Whether your prescription includes a vial with syringes or a prefilled injection pen, these instructions will help you prepare, inject, and rotate sites with confidence.

What’s in Your Package?
When your medication shipment arrives, you should find:
- Compounded GLP-1 medication (vial or pen, depending on prescription)
- Insulin syringes or injectable pen
- Alcohol pads
Before You Begin
- Check the “Beyond Use Date (BUD).”

Step-by-Step Injection Instructions
1. Wash Hands & Prepare Site
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
- Choose your injection site:
- Abdomen (at least 2 inches away from the belly button)
- Thigh (front or outer side, middle third)
- Abdomen (at least 2 inches away from the belly button)
- Clean the site with an alcohol pad and allow it to dry.
- Rotate injection sites weekly.
2. Prepare the Medication (for vials)
- Clean the vial’s rubber top with a fresh alcohol pad.
- Pull the syringe plunger back to draw in a small amount of air.
- Insert the needle into the vial and push in the air.
- Invert the vial and withdraw the prescribed dose.
- Remove air bubbles by tapping the syringe and pushing gently until a drop appears at the needle tip.
3. Administer the Injection
- Clean the injection site again with alcohol; let dry.
- Pinch a small fold of skin.
- Insert the needle at a 90-degree angle until fully in.
- Push the plunger slowly and steadily.
- Remove the needle and apply light pressure with a cotton ball if needed.
Injection Site Guidelines
- Abdomen: Inject into the soft fatty tissue, avoiding scars, bruises, or the belly button area.
- Thigh: Inject in the front or outer thigh, at least 4 inches above the knee and 4 inches below the hip. Avoid veins, scars, or bruises.
- Rotation: Alternate between abdomen and thighs to reduce irritation.
Injection Tips
- For prefilled pens, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions included in your prescription box.
- Rotate sites weekly to minimize discomfort and improve absorption.
Dispose of syringes or pen needles safely in a sharps container.
